There could be several reasons why some people prefer music from the past over current music. Here are a few possible explanations:
1. Nostalgia: People often associate music with memories from their past, such as a favorite song playing on the radio during a memorable moment. Listening to music from their youth can transport them back in time and evoke positive emotions, making them more inclined to prefer that music over newer songs.
2. Quality: Some people may believe that music from the past was of a higher quality than contemporary music. This could be because they appreciate the technical skills of musicians from the past, or they prefer the sound of older instruments or recording techniques.
3. Personal taste: Everyone has different tastes in music, and some people may simply prefer the styles of music that were popular in the past. For example, they might enjoy the simplicity of 1950s rock and roll or the soulful sounds of 1960s Motown.
4. Lack of exposure: It’s possible that some people haven’t been exposed to enough contemporary music to form an opinion about it. If someone primarily listens to classic rock radio stations or their own collection of older music, they may not have had the opportunity to discover newer music that they enjoy.
5. Cultural context: The music of a certain era can reflect the cultural, social, and political climate of that time. For some people, the music of the past may hold more significance because it reminds them of a particular cultural moment or movement that they identify with.
In generall it can be said that musical taste is an subjective opinion. There is no wrong or right. For me personally it is the passion from the artists and the organic sounds with real instruments that grab me everytime.
Todays mainstream music feels a lot more like a Product to me than a creative or emotionally expression. Just to mention some Artists from back in the day:
